The first step in doing so will be to visit https:\/\/www.allstarlink.org and apply for your own node number. To do so, head over to their page on another tab and reference this quick tutorial on how to get your own node number. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The first thing you’ll have to do is register for their site by clicking their menu item ‘Login\/Sign Up’. Follow the buttons to either log in, or to Sign Up, duh, right? Once completed you should be logged in to their site and have the ‘Portal’ menu item appear on the top menu. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Click the ‘Portal’ menu item and then click on Server Settings. Here, you’ll create a server for the node to utilize. Click on ‘Add New Server’. If you want a node attached to a radio, then click on Proceed with Server Setup.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fill in the information in the text boxes as necessary. The IAX Port box can be left default 4569, unless you plan on having multiple nodes behind a single router, such as my setup for the club. I have the HUB node, which all node attach to, and my radio node which attaches to the HUB node. In order for my radio node to report to the Allstarlink system, and thus connect to other nodes, I have to port forward the 4569 to it, and 4570 to my second node so it can also report and connect to other nodes. If you don’t plan on having more than one node then leave it default. Should you have plans for multiple nodes attached to the same internet router, you will have to set up a server for each, utilizing different IAX Ports for each one. You cannot port forward a single port to multiple IP addresses, unfortunately. Once you’ve completed the task of building your server, click Submit and the server should now be listed in the Portal\/Server Settings panel. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Once you’ve built your server, its time to request your node number. Click on Portal and select Node Settings. If you don’t have a node assigned to you, you should see a button that says Node Management. Click that button and follow the instructions to request a new node number. You should then receive your node number within 24 hours or so. That’s all there is to it for this step!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
